Status
Central Air Conditioners, glass air conditioners, portable air conditioners, and even your fridge all work much the same way. Their cooling power comes in refrigerant gas that is pumped through a closed coil of tubing. At one end of this coil, the refrigerant absorbs heat from the environment surrounding it, and at the opposite end of the reel, it gives off the heat to the ground conditions.
Since for split ac, air flowing over the sharp end of the coil brings the fresh and dehumidified air into space. The sky is dehumidified because moisture vapor suspended in the atmosphere condenses as it rolls the cold coil. The moisture melts the loop and collects in a pan, runs downhill to a drain, or can be utilized to cool the hot part of the coil. Meanwhile, air blowing over the burning end of this coil discharges into a hose resulting in the outside.
Some portable Air heaters have a single hose, and a few have two tubes. Two-hose versions are somewhat more complicated and maybe slightly more costly than some single-hose models. One hose takes in outside atmosphere, cools and dehumidifies it and sends it to the room while removing hot air off the hot end of the coil with the second hose. Two-hose models reduce the risk of eliminating cooled air to the outside and are not as inclined to make a negative pressure in a tightly-sealed living area.
How We Test
We put the Air conditioners in an area with tall windows that take in the intense afternoon sun. We then measure the temperature at four locations on the target using an infrared thermometer and thermoplastic.
